Established through a collaboration of friends, faculty, and alumni to honor our beloved friend, colleague and professor, the TYRONE WILLIAMS SCHOLARSHIP shall be awarded by the English Department to a full-time student entering their senior year who demonstrates creativity in their English coursework and a great commitment to the advancement of social justice.
A poet, scholar, and lyricist who penned the lyrics of the Xavier alma mater, Tyrone was a valued teacher, mentor, and friend. Joining Xavier in 1983, he quietly served in many capacities for Xavier University during his nearly forty year career. He was a major figure in the national poetry community as an author, judging prizes and editing various publications. We will miss his dry wit, great laugh and his gracious, unassuming supportive presence.
